In the late 1970’s, support for a local, independent Christian school swelled in the local Baptist and CRC churches until Alliston Community Christian School became a reality in 1981. On September 8, 1981, ACCS had an enrolment of 73 students and classes were held at the Alliston Christian Reformed Church on Downey Avenue.
In 1982, a 16-acre property just south of Alliston was purchased. Vandermeer Contracting built the school and families volunteered to help with construction. A sense of community was seen as families raised funds by baking pies and hosting strawberry dinners to support the new school. God has been good! His sustaining power has been seen in Alliston Community Christian School’s faithful leadership, teaching, and community.
In the early 2000’s, A.C.C.S. had grown to be too populous and the academic building needed to be expanded. In 2004, a fundraising campaign resulted in a new playground, a new steel roof, and three additional classrooms built onto the southwest side of the school. In June of 2007, with thankfulness to God, ACCS celebrated their 25thAnniversary. At that time the school had an enrolment of more than 100 students.
Now, more than 40 years since first opening, Alliston Community Christian School continues to fulfill its mission to provide Christ-centred education. Faith is integrated into all aspects of our students’ learning. Students are called to engage the world with Christian discernment, asking themselves what is good and Christ-like; and then pursuing those actions that God teaches us to do.
The A.C.C.S. community has grown to include representation from 15+ Bible-believing, Christ-following churches in the area of Alliston, Beeton, Tottenham, Shelburne, Lisle, and Cookstown. With near record-high student enrolment, we are continuously reminded of God’s faithfulness, Christ’s blessings and the work of the Holy Spirit that motivates us to move forward in trust and obedience.
